Privacy Policy
Effective October 10, 2026
The short version: your photos, rosters and captions stay on your computer. There are no ads and no cookies, and nothing is sold. The app goes online to check your licence, look for updates, download things you ask for, and send anonymous usage counts (how many people open it) that never include anything about you or your photos.
This policy explains what information Metadata Express (operated by Adam Obirek, "we", "us") handles, through the Mac and Windows app and this website.
What stays on your computer
Your photos, the metadata and captions you write, your rosters, score sheets, settings, your tagging-speed stats and AI Suggest's face and number data are stored only on your computer. We never receive them. The app keeps local files (settings, licence status, and AI Suggest logs used to measure accuracy) in your user folder; you can delete them anytime.
What the app sends, and why
- Licence activation and checks go to our licence service (hosted on Cloudflare), which confirms your subscription with Stripe: your licence key, and a name for the activation made from your computer's name and operating system (for example "Jamies-MacBook (macOS)"), so you can see and manage which computers use your subscription. The app re-checks the key about once a day when online.
- Update checks download a small file describing the latest version from GitHub, and updates themselves are downloaded from GitHub. Like any download, GitHub receives your IP address and the app's version.
- AI Suggest (optional) downloads its AI model once from Hugging Face. After that it runs entirely on your computer.
- Roster import (optional) loads the web page you enter, from that website.
- Usage counts: when it opens, starts a trial or is activated, the app sends an anonymous install code (a scrambled number that identifies the install, not you), the app version and the event, so we know how many people use Metadata Express. Nothing else is sent.
The app doesn't send your photos, file names, metadata or rosters anywhere.
Purchases
Purchases are handled by Stripe, our Merchant of Record. They collect your payment details, name, email address and billing address under their privacy policy. We receive your name, email address, order and subscription details, but never your full card number.
Contact form and suggestions
If you use our contact form (including feature suggestions), we receive your message, your email address, and your name, phone number and role if you give them. They're delivered to us by email through Web3Forms, a form-delivery service. We use them only to read your message and reply to you.
When you contact us, we use your message and email address to reply and help you. We may email subscribers about their subscription or important changes to the app. We don't sell or rent email addresses.
This website
This website uses no cookies. To understand how it's used, we count page views, which pages are viewed, the website that linked you here, your country, and clicks on Download and Subscribe. Visitors are counted with a code made from your connection that changes every day and can't be turned back into anything about you; we don't store IP addresses, names or emails. This website is hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may log visitors' IP addresses for security; see GitHub's privacy statement.
How we use and share information
We use the information above only to provide and support Metadata Express: selling and checking subscriptions, preventing licence sharing, delivering updates and answering questions. We share it only with the service providers named here, or when required by law. We don't sell personal information.
Keeping and deleting information
We keep purchase and licence records for as long as you have a subscription and afterwards as needed for tax and legal reasons. You can ask us to see, correct or delete your information through our contact form; where we can't delete something (for example tax records), we'll explain why.
Children
Metadata Express is for professional and adult users and isn't directed at children under 13.
Changes
We'll post any changes to this policy here with a new effective date, and tell subscribers about significant changes.
